Public Digital Microstructure Dataset Catalog: Materials, Sources, and Data Readiness

This catalog indexes publicly discoverable digital microstructure datasets for materials research. The November 2, 2026 snapshot contains 4,444 catalog records from 1,385 source datasets, with reported publication years spanning 2011–2026. Coverage includes metals and alloys, ceramics, composites, polymers, electrochemical materials, foams, synthetic microstructures, and geomaterials. The condensed catalog prioritizes engineering materials and groups related records by reported material and composition within each source collection. Records provide source links and, where available, DOIs, licensing information, characterization methods, dimensionality, spatial resolution, processing conditions, and associated properties. Structural-data readiness is classified as: Tier A: Numerical structure available. Tier B: Processing or reconstruction required. Tier C: Images or statistics only. These tiers describe the available structural data; they do not certify readiness for a particular simulation. The ZIP contains two Excel workbooks, three CSV exports, and a short README. The workbooks provide detailed and condensed views, while the CSV files support programmatic use and include an engineering-materials-only export. This release is a catalog of external datasets. Underlying microstructure files remain at their linked repositories and retain their original licenses and access conditions. Records may represent specimens, processing conditions, or grouped collections rather than independent 3D volumes. Missing information and unverified candidates are explicitly identified; pending candidates are excluded from the stated catalog totals.
