De novo transcriptome sequencing of Rhododendron molle root and flower tissues

Rhododendron molle (Ericaceae) is a traditional chinese medicinal plant,Previous chemical studies demonstrate that R. molle contain abundant secondary metabolites such as terpenoinds, flavonoids , lignins, some of which have exhibited various bioactivities including analgesia, hypotensive.We conducted deep de novo transcriptome sequencing for R. molle flower and root tissues by using the Illumina Hiseq platform .This study provided an important genetic resource which will shed light on elucidating various secondary metabolites biosynthetic pathways in R.molle, especially those having medicinal value and allow for drug development in this potential herb.
