Fresh fecal samples from cats and dogs were collected between March and April 2024 across 21 cities in China. Total DNA was extracted from fecal samples using the Quick-DNATM Fecal/Soil Microbe MiniPrep Kit (Zymo) following the manufacturer’s protocol. DNA quantity and quality were assessed using NanoDrop 2000. High-quality DNA were subsequently transported to MagiGene Co. Ltd. for pair-end sequencing (150bp) on the Illumina Novaseq 6000 platform, yielding at least 15Gbp of raw data per sample.
