Water Microbiota and Chemical Contaminants Associated with Community Kidney Health in the Nam Phong River Basin, Thailand

This project investigates the relationships between microbial communities in surface water, environmental contaminants, and community-level kidney health along the Nam Phong River Basin in northeastern Thailand. Water samples were collected from 13 sites and analyzed for bacterial community composition using 16S rRNA gene sequencing. These data were integrated with water chemistry and spatially mapped kidney function metrics (eGFR) to identify ecological patterns associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD) prevalence. The study highlights potential microbial indicators of environmental stress and supports the use of microbiome profiling in environmental health monitoring.
