Tetranychus urticae Genome sequencing. Tetranychus urticae

The initial genome sequence of the London strain of Tetranychus urticae, the two-spotted spider mite, was generated by assembly of Sanger sequencing reads and was published in 2011 (Grbic et al. 2011. The genome of Tetranychus urticae reveals herbivorous pest adaptations. Nature 479:487-92). We used population-based bulk segregant datasets to assembly scaffolds in this assembly to form larger scaffolds suitable for a range of genetic mapping studies in this important agricultural pest.
