Human–Long-Tailed Macaque Interaction Dataset from Sianok Canyon, West Sumatra, Indonesia

This dataset supports the research article entitled "Spatial Patterns and Drivers of Human–Long-Tailed Macaque Interactions in Anthropogenic Landscapes of West Sumatra, Indonesia." The dataset contains field observations of interactions between humans and long-tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis) collected in the Sianok Canyon Nature Tourism Area, West Sumatra, Indonesia. Field observations were conducted between September and December 2024 using the ad libitum sampling method. Observations were carried out simultaneously across three habitat types: settlement areas, forest edges, and roadsides. A total of 712 interaction events were recorded during 210 hours of standardized observation. This repository contains the raw observation dataset, processed dataset used for statistical analyses, data dictionary, R scripts used for data analysis, figures, and supporting documentation. The repository has been prepared following the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) principles to facilitate transparency and reproducibility. The raw dataset includes information on observation date, observation time, habitat type, interaction category, interaction context, interaction outcome (positive or negative), observer code, and field notes. The processed dataset was used to perform descriptive statistics, Chi-square analyses, and logistic regression analyses reported in the associated publication. The study was conducted in the Sianok Canyon Nature Tourism Area, West Sumatra, Indonesia, focusing on the long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis).
