This is the first study of the inputs, temporal and structural transformations of Greenland Ice Sheet microbial communities over the course of a whole melt season. The 16S rRNA gene of glacier debris (cryoconite), cryoconite holes, microbes within airborne dust and in snow were analysed for this purpose.
