In this study, we investigated the use of metagenomics for recovering high-quality genomes of <i>Paenibacillus larvae</i>, the etiological agent of American Foulbrood in honeybees. We applied pangenomics and phylogenomics analyses to characterise the diversity of strains circulating in Denmark. In addition, we successfully reconstructed the genome of a strain present in a historical beehive sample, preserved at the Natural History Museum of Denmark.
