Mangrove Distribution Dataset with 10m Spatial Resolution in China’s Mangrove National Nature Reserves (2016–2020)
This dataset reflects the spatial distribution of mangroves within China’s mangrove national nature reserves from 2016 to 2020.
Mangroves are woody wetland plant communities dominated by mangrove species, consisting of evergreen trees and shrubs that grow in tropical and subtropical coastal intertidal zones. They play a crucial role in purifying seawater, windbreak and wave dissipation, carbon sequestration and storage, and biodiversity conservation, earning them the reputations of "Coast Guardian" and "Marine Green Lung". Additionally, mangroves serve as important habitats for rare and endangered waterbirds, as well as breeding and growth grounds for fish, shrimp, crabs and shellfish.
Mangrove national nature reserves play an extremely important role in protecting mangroves and their habitats. Extracting the spatial distribution data of mangroves within these reserves can provide fundamental data support for mangrove management and mangrove ecosystem research in coastal areas.
