This study aimed to investigate the effect of sodium ions on the cellulose degradation ability of Lactobacillus plantarum YQM48 and elucidate the underlying mechanism. The results showed that the addition of sodium ions significantly enhanced the cellulose degradation ability of L. plantarum YQM48. Specifically, the addition of 50 mM sodium ions increased the beta-glucosidase activity of L. plantarum YQM48 by 1.5-fold compared to the control. Furthermore, the addition of sodium ions also increased the expression levels of BGL genes in L. plantarum YQM48. These findings suggest that sodium ions could enhance the cellulose degradation ability of L. plantarum YQM48 by increasing BGL activity. This study provides important insights into the mechanisms underlying the regulation of cellulose degradation by L. plantarum YQM48 and has implications for the development of novel strategies for enhancing the efficiency of biomass energy utilization.
