Labour relations laws in Canada (1976-2012)

This dataset is a labour relations legal index for each Canadian province, from 1976-2012, indicating how favourable laws were toward unions. The dataset "legis_monthly.csv" provides the detailed information about the various labour relations laws (for each year and month) that we used to create our labour relations legal index. The legal information had been gathered from a variety of sources, detailed in "legis_Sources.xlsx". The laws are described and summarized in Table 3 of the article, "The effect of labor relations laws on unionization rates within the labor force: Evidence from the Canadian provinces" in <i>Industrial Relations: A Journal of Economy and Society</i> <a href="https://doi.org/10.1111/irel.12187">(Legree, Schirle, and Skuterud, 2017)</a>.
