A database of microblade sites over East Asia since 36ka BP

Microliths are an important symbol of the evolution of human culture at the end of the Late Pleistocene, an important behavior of ancient humans to adapt to the environmental changes before and after the last glacial maximum, and also an important evidence for tracing the migration and spread of modern humans. In this study, we compile a comprehensive database of microblade sites across East Asia through extensive literature review to systematically characterize their spatiotemporal distribution patterns. By applying the Binford model, we simulate resource availability and environmental conditions during the emergence and diffusion of microblade (36-10ka BP) in East Asia. The main findings are summarized as follows: (1) The East Asian Microlithic Site Database comprises 146 microblade sites with 457 dating entries, spanning 36-10ka BP. (2)We obtained over 267 variable results through the Binford model. Study area: 83°E–160°E, 27°N–63°N (0.2°×0.2° grid). Time spans: 36–21ka BP (2ka resolution); 21–10ka BP (1ka resolution).
