This study aims to gain a deep understanding of the phenomenon of moral distress in healthcare professionals (HCPs). Study 1 collected qualitative data from in-depth interviews with HCPs working in hospitals in mainland China. After obtaining ethics approval from the Human Research Ethics Committee of The University of Hong Kong, the author recruited 20 HCPs to participate in these qualitative interviews. The interviews were audio recorded and then transcribed in Chinese. The transcripts were subsequently coded and analyzed using NVivo software. A total of twenty interview transcripts were included in the main folder.Quantitative data were collected via an online questionnaire using Qualtrics. This was a cross-sectional study. Healthcare professionals who worked full-time at hospitals were invited to participate, including but not limited to physicians, nurses, medical social workers, therapists, and psychologists.
