Dataset from journalist survey for DEMOTEC project

This dataset was produced as part of the DEMOTEC Horizon project funded by the European Union (H2020 GA no. 962553). The main objective of the project was to study professional journalists' opinions and perceptions regarding Participatory Budgeting (PB).

The dataset consists of survey responses from journalists across seven European countries (Cyprus, Greece, the Netherlands, Poland, Ireland, Romania, and the UK). The survey explored journalists' perceptions of PB and other governance mechanisms, focusing on factors such as trust in institutions, citizen engagement, and professional journalistic roles.

The dataset includes responses to 100 variables, capturing key dimensions such as:

Trust in Institutions: Including government, parliament, local authorities, and NGOs.

Citizen Engagement: Perceptions of barriers to citizen participation in decision-making processes.

Journalistic Values: Balance between impartial and critical obligations in professional journalism.

Awareness and Evaluation of Participatory Budgeting: Including preferences for binding vs. advisory models.

Demographics and Work Context: Such as age, education, years of journalistic experience, and media categories covered.

The dataset provides a unique opportunity to understand how journalists across diverse national and professional contexts perceive the feasibility, challenges, and opportunities of participatory governance mechanisms like PB.
