Assessing Platform Diversity and Evenness in Data Management and Data Science Research Outputs through Altmetrics

This dataset was created for the research study titled “Assessing Platform Diversity and Evenness in Data Management and Data Science Research Outputs through Altmetrics.” It contains data extracted from the Altmetric Explorer for the top ten journals in the field of Data Management and Data Science (DMDS), covering the period from January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024. The dataset includes the number of online mentions across various platforms such as news outlets, blogs, policy documents, patents, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Wikipedia, Reddit, peer review sites, video platforms, and Bluesky. These values were used to assess platform diversity and calculate Pielou’s Evenness Index (J′) to measure the distribution of attention across platforms. The data support an analysis of how DMDS research outputs are discussed and disseminated on various online platforms, highlighting the diversity and evenness of social and scholarly engagement.
