Gender Politics, Conflict and External Interventions in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea

This thesis examines the gendered political dynamics that underpin violent conflict and promote peace. It investigates how externally driven interventions impact on women’s ability to build and sustain peace. The case study of the Highlands of Papua New Guinea exemplifies global attributes of conflict-prone contexts, where socio-economic vulnerabilities, climate shocks, and political grievances converge with high levels of gender inequality and violence against women.
