In this study, higher titers of replication-defective JEV with a NS1 deletion (JEV-delNS1) were produced in a selected BHK cell line that expresses WT WNV NS1 protein (BHK NS1). Through in vitro blind passage in BHK NS1 cells and in vivo neuroinvasiveness and neurovirulence evaluation, we demonstrated that JEV-delNS1 was genetically stable and highly attenuated.
