This study explores the socio-technical lock-ins influencing the energy transition of electricity grid infrastructure in the Netherlands and examines how these lock-ins can drive adaptive change. It is a qualitative research study that employs an abductive approach, integrating theoretical insights with empirical findings. Data collection involved semi-structured interviews (N=11) with key actors from a Dutch Distribution System Operator (DSO) and document analysis (N=7) of sustainability strategies, grid operations, and congestion management reports. The dataset includes coded interview data identifying lock-in mechanisms and responses, as well as a structured analysis of documents highlighting causal relationships for a qualitative system dynamics model.
