A novel coronavirus named 2019-nCoV was first identified in Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei Province, China. Pneumonia cases were reported with no clear etiology, and existing vaccines and therapeutic methods proved ineffective. Evidence of human-to-human transmission of the virus has been confirmed. The transmissibility (infection rate) appeared to rise in mid-January 2020. As of January 30, 2020, approximately 8,243 confirmed cases had been recorded.
