PATHOMORPHOLOGICAL FEATURES OF RENAL MICROCIRCULATORY AND TUBULOINTERSTITIAL CHANGES IN ACUTE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION

Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is accompanied by systemic hemodynamic, neurohumoral, inflammatory, and metabolic disturbances that may lead to secondary damage to the kidneys. Renal involvement is particularly important because acute impairment of kidney function is associated with unfavorable cardiovascular outcomes. This thesis analyzes the major pathomorphological features of renal microcirculatory and tubulointerstitial alterations developing during acute myocardial infarction. Particular attention is paid to renal hypoperfusion, venous congestion, tubular epithelial injury, interstitial edema, and subsequent reparative and fibrotic processes. Morphological assessment of these changes may contribute to a better understanding of cardiorenal interactions and facilitate differentiation between early reversible renal alterations and progressive structural kidney damage.
