Climate-carbon feedback tradeoff between Arctic and alpine permafrost under warming.<i>Sci. adv.</i><b>11</b>,eadt8366(2025).DOI:10.1126/sciadv.adt8366<br>This dataset is an updated and expanded version of the data used in our associated research article, incorporating additional experimental records and extended metadata not included in the original manuscript.We are continuously updating the dataset with new records and metadata on a regular basis.In addition to warming experiment data, the dataset provides <b>site-level metadata for 149 permafrost monitoring sites</b> with observed <b>changes in active layer thickness (ALT)</b> during 1990–2022. For each site, we include the <b>geographic location, permafrost type, site name, and site code</b>. The ALT values themselves are not included and can be accessed via the <b>Circumpolar Active Layer Monitoring (CALM)</b> network (https://arcticdata.io/catalog/portals/CALM/Data).The core dataset (current version) compiles observational data from <b>131 peer-reviewed publications</b>, covering <b>1430 independent warming experiments</b> across Arctic and alpine permafrost ecosystems. It includes <b>17 ecological variables</b> related to carbon and nitrogen cycling, GHG fluxes (CO₂, CH₄, N₂O), vegetation traits, and soil properties, along with detailed metadata on site characteristics and experimental design.This resource is designed to support <b>meta-analysis</b>, <b>Earth system model benchmarking</b>, and <b>remote sensing validation</b> in the context of permafrost–climate feedbacks.We aim to maintain this as a <b>living dataset</b>, with future updates to incorporate newly published studies and expand variable coverage. The current version represents the most comprehensive synthesis to date.<br>
