资源简介:
BACKGROUND: Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is one of the rare diseases poorly investigated and understood from a series of variables that can only be reported by the patients themselves and that are not included in the medical records. Therefore, this study aims to contribute to the holistic understanding of CRPS sufferers.AIM: To analyze the sociodemographic, clinical and health characteristics of a sample of Latin American and Spanish patients with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS).METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study in which a form was applied, through Google Forms, to 80 volunteer patients with CRPS; 92.5% were women with a mean age of 41.8 years within a range of 23 and 60 years. The 66.2% had higher education.RESULTS: It was found that most patients reported having received erroneous diagnoses before being detected as suffering from CRPS. Also, 92% were women and 55.7% of the total reported having suffered some type of discrimination because of their health condition. In addition, 25% of the patients considered that they were independent in their usual activities. Regarding their lifestyles, 60% maintain a healthy diet, 35% do not consume alcoholic beverages and 73.8% do not smoke. Finally, 57% do not practice sports and 65% perform exercises indicated by a physiotherapist to relieve pain.CONCLUSIONS: Patients are primarily seen by general practitioners and present functional impairment. Likewise, they maintain healthy habits in most cases, but with little practice of sports activities. It is presumed that these patients have a loss of working capacity (about 50%) associated with CRPS. This pioneering study in Peru corroborates the sociodemographic characteristics reported in previous studies. In any case, this study reports on aspects that have not been investigated (from the patients' perceptions) such as lifestyles, family support, the work status of these patients and the experience associated with the diagnosis, among others.
