Description
Data of the MatterHEX (MatterHorn EXperiment) 2023 field campaign at the Matterhorn (Cervino, European Alps) conducted between 29 September and 16 October 2023 and the corresponding EULAG Large-Eddy Simulations (Prusa et al., 2008) to study flow past Matterhorn and the formation of banner clouds. A complete overview of the campaign strategy, the deployed instruments, and the observational timeline is given in Hoch et al. (2025). In additon, Hoch et al. (2025) summarizes the main findings of MatterHEX and investigates how frequently flow conditions around the Matterhorn are conducive to banner cloud occurrence. A detailed comparison of the observations with EULAG Large-Eddy Simulations can be found in Thomas et al. (2025).
Repository structure
The repository includes data from a 1. Halo Photonics Streamline XR Doppler lidar located near Furggsee (Zermatt), 2. Vaisala Windcube v2.1 lidar near Furggsee (Zermatt), 3. Cambell Scientific CSAT3 Sonic Anemometer near Furggsee (Zermatt), 4. GRAW DF-09 Radiosondes at Schönbielhütte SAC, 5. Webcam near Furggsee (Zermatt), 6. Webcam at upper Hirli cable car station (Zermatt), 7. & 8. first and last time step fields of the EULAG Large-Eddy Simulations, and 9. & 10. one-hour time-averaged fields of the EULAG Large-Eddy Simulations.
