Urban Limits

The Idaho Transportation Department's (ITD) Roads and Highways Road Network Linear Referencing System (LRS) urban limits event polyline feature class represents the urban boundaries which define the edges of urbanized areas, distinguishing them from surrounding rural or natural lands. They are typically implemented as Urban Growth Boundaries (UGBs), a planning tool used to contain urban sprawl by restricting development outside the defined area. UGBs promote efficient land use by encouraging compact, high-density development within the boundary and preserving open spaces and agricultural lands beyond it.
