Microbial community composition was analyzed during formation and persistence of lake ice in the Keweenaw Waterway on the Keweenaw Peninsula in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The goals of this study were to evaluate the changes in microbial diversity under ice and the potential implications for biogeochemical cycling under ice.
