ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF TEACHING WRITING SKILLS USING AI IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASSROOM

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into English language teaching has significantly transformed writing instruction in modern classrooms. AI-powered tools such as grammar checkers, automated feedback systems, and text-generation applications provide learners with immediate correction, vocabulary support, and personalized learning opportunities. These technologies contribute to improved writing accuracy, learner autonomy, and instructional efficiency. However, the implementation of AI in teaching writing skills also presents several challenges, including overdependence on technology, academic dishonesty, reduced creativity, and unequal access to digital resources. This article examines the major advantages and disadvantages of using AI in the English language classroom, with particular attention to its pedagogical, cognitive, and ethical implications. The study concludes that AI should function as a supplementary educational instrument rather than a replacement for teachers. Effective integration requires a balanced approach combining technological innovation with human guidance, critical thinking development, and ethical academic practices.
