Ville e fattorie romane tra Puglia e Molise: una rilettura dei dati

The aim of the present work isto give an overview of the archaeological investigations regarding roman forms and villas found in an area corresponding to the Molise region and the northern portion of the Apulia region. Data regarding sites was systematically collected and a GIS platform was parallelly created, thus allowing us to make topographic contextualization and sites distribution analysis. Information on roman farms and villas were consequently compared with other elements, such as environment, main roman routes, agricultural division. Lastly, a critical analysis of the functional role of the archaeological sites considered was conducted, thus allowing us to distinguish between "functional types" according to precise evaluation criteria. Results obtained indicate a settlement framework characterized by isolated complexes with various functions, generally active starting from the pre-Roman / Augustan Age until the 5th-6th centuries AD.
