Skills Development for Successful Construction 4.0 Adoption in Australia

This thesis examines how skills development underpins successful Construction 4.0 adoption in Australia. Through systematic reviews and interviews with professionals and trade workers, it identifies technology-linked and task-oriented skill requirements, revealing that digital transformation is hindered by fragmented training and uneven readiness. The study identifies Construction 4.0 skill sets distinguishing professional and trade skill domains and proposes tailored, context-specific training strategies. Theoretically, it reframes socio-technical and skills development theories around the human dimension of digitalisation. Practically and policy-wise, it provides validated skill sets and a roadmap to strengthen Australia’s construction workforce for a digitally enabled future.
