Interior or core forest provides important ecological values. According to the
Ecosystem Management Technical report, core forest is defined as "a forest located
more than 300 feet from altered land or a road" (page 39).
The Forest Integrity Analysis and Methods document describes land use types not considered
forest edges as 'bare rock outcrop, herbaceous wetlands, and water/shoreline beach categories.'
