Analysis of PM10-bound elements for an inland city in Portugal (Metadata RADIATE TA Proposal 21002436-ST)

Proposal title "Analysis of PM10-bound elements for an inland city in Portugal". Measurements carried out at the external beam set-up for atmospheric aerosol analysis of the INFN LABEC accelerator laboratory, from 1 till 3 September 2021. Hands-off mode.

From January to March 2021, an exhaustive air quality monitoring program was carried out in Braganza, Portugal. Measurements included continuous monitoring of several gaseous pollutants by automatic monitors (NO_x, CO, PM10, PM2.5, benzene, toluene, xylene, SO₂, O₃), meteorological variables (wind speed and direction, precipitation, temperature, relative humidity), and the daytime and nighttime collection of PM10 onto different filters media (quartz fibre and Teflon).

About 150 samples of PM10 atmospheric aerosol sampled and collected on Teflon filters (47 mm in diameter, 2.0 μm pore size, from<br>
Pall) were analyzed by PIXE technique using an extracted proton beam of 3.0 MeV (energy on target) to determine the elemental composition. A set of elemental standards and an aerosol reference standard (NIST 2783) were analysed as well for quality assurance purposes and to check the accuracy of quantitative results.
