NCEI-binned level-3 Sea Surface Salinity from the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Soil Moisture Ocean Salinity (SMOS) from 2010-06-01 to 2016-04-30 (NCEI Accession 0151732)

The data quality monitoring system (DQMS) for the Soil Moisture Ocean Salinity (SMOS) satellites level-2 sea-surface salinity (SSS) swath data has been developed by the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) satellite oceanography team. As one of important component of DQMS, NCEI also generates 1ox1o longitude/latitude gridded level-3 SSS data using box averages over the global ocean. The datasets comprise monthly and 3-day means.
NCEI-binned quick-look level-3 SSS datasets are generated directly from SMOS Level-2 products (currently v6.22)for improving the use of satellite SSS products in NOAA’s data applications by minimizing the data latency to within 24 hours of Level-2 data availability, satellite-in situ data comparisons, as well as for near-real-time data quality monitoring on level-2 obit data.
