We discovered that the EGR1-SHH signaling axis is associated with slower hair regeneration. We performed RNA-seq and single cell RNA sequencing analyses of the expression of relevant genes in total RNA samples from mouse skin taken after hair plucking, and analyzed differences in back hair regeneration among mice at different time points. We used 24-month-old mice to represent aging mice, ob/ob gene knockout mice to represent obese mice, and 3-month-old mice to represent young mice.
