This dataset details the data on linear and nonlinear optical properties of water-dispersed carbon nanodots (CNDs) synthesized via a rapid, one-step hydrothermal microwave-assisted method. The CNDs demonstrate two-photon excited luminescence, characterized with spectrally tunable femtosecond laser pulses. The repository includes findings on the use of CNDs as fluorescent sensors for selective and sensitive Fe³⁺ ion detection, which was achieved through fluorescence quenching under both one-photon and two-photon excitation regimes. Temperature-dependent fluorescence quenching experiments were conducted to explore the mechanisms underlying the observed fluorescence intensity reduction upon Fe³⁺ addition. Moreover, the dataset features luminescence kinetics data obtained through time-correlated single-photon counting and time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy techniques, in one- and two-photon regimes, respectively. These insights support the hypothesis of potential energy transfer between CNDs and Fe³⁺ ions. The pronounced nonlinear optical response of the CNDs underscores their potential as active optoelectronic materials.
