Incubators Role in Entrepreneurship Development of MSME Sector in Mizoram

This study examines the role of Business Incubation Centres in supporting start-ups and promoting entrepreneurial activities in Mizoram, a small landlocked state in India with a tertiary sector-dominated economy. Primary data was collected through a field survey conducted between March and July 2024, involving 63 incubatees and five incubators. The study employed questionnaires to determine the support offered by incubators and how it is perceived by incubatees. Statistical tools such as mean score, <i>t-</i>test, chi-square test, and binary logistic regression were used to analyse the data. The results indicate that incubatees in the Start-up stage had the highest overall perception of entrepreneurial development dimensions, followed by the Growth and Developing stages. MZUIC had the highest incubatee satisfaction rate (87 per cent), while MZUBN reported lower satisfaction (60 per cent). Logistic regression analysis revealed that the Overall Dimension Score significantly predicted incubatee satisfaction, with a 42.3 per cent increase in satisfaction odds for each one-unit increase in the score. The study highlights the need for targeted support mechanisms within the incubation framework to address the specific needs of entrepreneurs in Mizoram and further exploration of the entrepreneurial ecosystem to inform policy decisions aimed at fostering entrepreneurship in the region.
