This dataset includes forest structural, microclimatic, and soil moisture measurements from 40 temperate forest plots in Brandenburg, Germany. It supports analyses of vapor pressure deficit (VPD) dynamics and soil drying rates (SDR) during dry periods, and their relationships with forest structural attributes and macroclimate conditions. This file contains all data and analyses from the manuscript “Forest structure matters: Vertical metrics mitigate vapor pressure deficit in Scots pine-dominated temperate forests during dry periods ” (Brunschweiger et al. 2026, published in Agricultural and Forest Meteorology): https://doi.org/10.1016/j.agrformet.2026.111242 The code was written using R Markdown formatting with R version 4.3.3. An html report was generated from RMarkdown, which can be read online without the R software, and includes both the code and the resulting outputs.
