Sampling Milkweed population with transect, Dataset 2

This data was collected at York University grassland on September 22, 2015 at 3:00-5:00pm. My group members Amanda, Tonia, Michael and I conducted this experiment on a sunny day with temperature 21-22 °C. The plant species that this data was collected on is Common Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca). A transect tape was randomly placed in a grass field with many plant species in a straight line. Starting from the transect origin, and walking along it, on every milkweed individual encounter, it’s distance was measured from the starting point. Additional to its distance, every individual milkweed plant’s height, number of leaves (alive), and number of flowers were recorded. Whether the plants were in crowd of other species or not was also recorded (0 = Open area, 1 = few plants nearby, 2 = more than few plants nearby, 3 = very crowded area within 50cm). This study will give insight on how other species effect growth of Milkweed. This study will give insights on how other species effect the growth of Milkweeds.
