Vervet Colony Genome Project (Chlorocebus aethiops genome sequencing)

This project contains the whole genome sequence of over 700 vervets (African Green Monkeys) from the Wake Forest University Primate Center Vervet Research Colony (VRC). The oldest animals (n=16) have been sequenced to 30x coverage. The remaining animals were sequenced to either 4x depth of coverage (n= ~400), or 1x (n= ~300). The VRC vervets are well characterized as to their phenotypes and serve as model organisms for a number of studies into diabetes, cardiovascular disease, HIV/AIDS, Parkinson’s, substance abuse, attention deficit disorder, alcoholism, reproduction, tissue regeneration and other conditions. This dataset provides a valuable research tool for present and future researchers and will help to inform treatment of various diseases that afflict both vervets and humans.
