U.S. National Security Commissions, 1981-2009

This dataset presents information related to United States blue-ribbon commissions that examined national security issues between January 1981 and January 2009. The purpose of the dataset is to enable analysis of the influence of blue-ribbon commissions and of the conditions and characteristics that affect the influence of these commissions. Findings based on the dataset will be published in Jordan Tama, "Crises, Commissions, and Reform: The Impact of Blue-Ribbon Panels," Political Research Quarterly. Findings based on an earlier version of the dataset were published in Jordan Tama, Terrorism and National Security Reform: How Commissions Can Drive Change During Crises (Cambridge University Press, 2011).
