Uralla Farm Planning Group Workshops and Field Days

This project will deliver workshops and field days for farmers in the Uralla area of NSW to demonstrate the links between farm profitability and the on-farm utilisation of ecosystem services that are essential for efficient use of rainfall and solar energy. Farmers will be shown how to measure and use benchmark data on ground cover, litter, leaf area index, species diversity, shade, shelter and soil health to assess current farm performance and identify management changes needed to maximise use of rainfall and energy. The role of these in adaptation to climatic variability will be demonstrated at trial farm sites. The project will result in 10 farmers with improved management over at least 5,000 ha of grazing land.
