Samba Mahsuri (SM) is an elite variety of rice that is susceptible to several pathogens, Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae being one of them that causes bacterial blight. Genes conferring resistance to bacterial blight were introduced into SM through a marker assisted back cross breeding (MABB) program, using the rice line SS1113 as donor. Two lines Improved Samba Mahsuri (ISM) and sister line of ISM (SISM) exhibited resistance to blight, while retaining the long and slender grain and cooking quality of SM. In this study, we have sequenced SM, ISM, SISM and SS1113, using Illumina platform, and have delineated an approach to identify regions of introgression, other than the three resistant genes.
