Cockroach allergen has been established as one of the leading causative agents for morbidity in inner-city children with asthma. A major goal of the NIAID-funded Inner-City Asthma Consortium (ICAC) is to conduct a large multi-center efficacy trial of cockroach immunotherapy in inner-city asthma. We intend in this study to test the effects of cockroach subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) on asthma control, as well as safety and immunologic biomarkers, in a pediatric population. This study is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter trial of non-standardized glycerinated German cockroach (Blattella germanica) allergenic extract or placebo treatment administered by subcutaneous injection.
