Previous work on SANDALS has proposed that sweetness is intrinsically linked to the length of the hydrogen bonds between the sugar and water. However, this theory has only been applied to monosaccharides, which are not the only sweet compounds known. Here, we will explore the hydration of inorganic salts, known to have a sweet taste, allowing us to probe the universality of the hydrogen bonding – sweetness link.
