Housing Mix & Trends Report

The City encourages the development of more types of housing all over town. Housing mix shows the various types of housing under construction and recently completed. Constructing a wider diversity of housing types expands choice for Bend residents. By encouraging housing types other than single-family detached dwellings, smaller housing units may be developed. Because price often increases as square footage increases, smaller units can be less expensive, and often have lower operating and maintenance costs - expanding housing options helps creates more housing that is affordable by design. Housing mix charts shown here are based on building permit data and are categorized by building use. Building use is determined by the number of units in a building, not the total number of units on a lot or parcel. Multifamily residential, per Oregon State Building Codes, is defined as 3 or more units in a building.
