Background The National Health Care Surveys are a part of the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. These provider based surveys are organized around different health care settings- physician offices, emergency departments, outpatient hospital departments, inpatient hospital departments, ambulatory surgery facilities, home and hospice care providers, and nursing homes. The surveys are generally of interest to health service s researchers, policy makers and others interested in learning more about what drives the cost and quality of health care. Specific topics include quality of care, disparities in care, resources and electronic medical records. User Functionality Full reports and data files from the National Health Care Surveys are available for download, and users can apply to get access to the not publicly released data. Users should go to the specific survey in order to download the data. Data Notes The National Health Care Surveys include the following: National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey, National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey, National Survey of Ambulatory Surgery, National Hospital D ischarge Survey, National Nursing Home Survey and National Home and Hospice Care Survey.
