Connecting or Isolating: Investigating the Influence of Pandemic Mortality Salience on Prosocial Behavior——The Dataset.

The dataset is associated with the study Connecting or Isolating: Investigating the Influence of Pandemic Mortality Salience on Prosocial Behavior . The research comprises three experiments, and therefore, the data for each experiment is stored in three separate folders named Experiment 1 Raw Data, Experiment 2 Raw Data and Experiment 3 Raw Data, respectively. In the raw data for Experiment 1, there are three subfolders named Group1-TMS, Group2-PMS, and Group3-PS, respectively. These subfolders contain detailed data for participants in the typical mortality salience group, pandemic mortality salience group, and pain salience control group. Each participant's data is labeled with their participant number, such as Subject1. The participant data includes information from STEP1 to STEP4, which respectively contain the data for task initiation, distractor task, Positive and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS) and resource allocation task in the Dictator Game. A total of 89 undergraduate students were recruited for Experiment 1. Due to the data collection method for this experiment involving paper-based materials that were not easily preserved, one participant's data from the pandemic mortality salience group was lost.The storage structure for Experiment 2 Raw Data is consistent with that of Experiment 1 Raw Data, with the only difference being that "Group1-EMS" contains detailed data for the earthquake mortality salience group. A total of 88 undergraduate students were recruited for Experiment 2.In the raw data for Experiment 3, there are three subfolders named Group1-PNMS, Group2-PS and Group3-PMS, respectively. These subfolders contain detailed data for each participant in the pandemic non-mortality salience group, pain salience control group, and pandemic mortality salience group. The detailed data of each participant is labeled with their participant number, such as Subject1. The participant data includes two items: STEP1 and STEP2, which respectively contain data materials for task initiation and distractor tasks. Additionally, the data for the Positive and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS) and the Volunteer Willingness Measurement for all three groups of participants are stored in Excel spreadsheets named PANAS and Volunteer Willingness Measurement, respectively. A total of 89 undergraduate students were recruited for Experiment 3.
