Longitudinal whole genome sequencing of cytomegalovirus from children

Cytomegalovirus can cause fatal pneumonitis and colitis in the immunocompromised, as well as increasing the risk of organ rejection in transplant patients. With the advent of new anti-CMV drugs there is considerable interest in using virus sequence data to monitor emerging resistance and identify new mutations. We used the Sure Select capture method and deep sequencing of CMV DNA from 11 immunosuppressed paediatric patients receiving single or combination anti-CMV treatment who were serially sampled over periods of 1-27 weeks.
