Houston Methodist Hospital System SDSE Molecular Epidemiology

Streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp. equisimilis (SDSE) is a cause of human infections that are increasing in frequency and medical importance. There is limited population genomic data with patient demographic and case clinical information available. This study was designed to address this information shortage by a comprehensive genomic surveillance study within a single, large healthcare system serving a highly diverse metropolitan population. We prospectively collected and analyzed all available SDSE isolates identified in the system (beginning June 2022). Complete genetic characterization was obtained using Illumina Whole-Genome Sequencing (WGS).
