Retrospective screening for human Borna disease virus 1 (BoDV-1) infections in Austria

For a retrospective screening for human Borna disease virus 1 (BoDV-1) infections, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and serum samples from the biobank of the Center for Virology in Vienna were selected based on neurological symptoms. RT-qPCR and serological assays (ELISA, iIFA) were performed. BoDV-1 RNA or confirmed anti-BoDV-1 IgG antibodies were not detected in any of the CSF or serum samples, respectively.
