Replication data and code for "University–publisher agreements sharply expand open access but yield modest citation gains"

This repository contains the replication data and code for the study “University–publisher agreements sharply expand open access but yield modest citation gains.” The study analyzes 640,624 articles published from 2016–2024 by corresponding authors at 187 U.S. research universities across 3,824 hybrid journals from Elsevier, Springer Nature, and Wiley. The repository includes the hand-collected registry of 92 transformative agreements, the estimation dataset constructed from OpenAlex and agreement information, and the code used to reproduce the main analyses, tables, and figures. The materials support analyses of how full and partial article-processing-charge coverage affect hybrid open-access uptake, citations, repository deposition, and preprinting, including instrumental-variable estimates, event studies, and heterogeneity across publishers and academic fields.
