Constraining the X-ray Spectral and Timing Characteristics of PSR J1741-2054

PSR J17412054 was discovered as a gammaray pulsar in a blind search of Fermisources. We detected radio pulses and found a very low dispersion measure,implying it is very nearby, and thus one of the closest middleaged pulsars. OurChandra observations imaged the pulsar, a pulsarwind nebula (PWN), and a longtrail. Detection of an Halpha bow shock gave a space velocity of 150 km/s. Wepropose a 70 ksec XMM observation to detect the Xray pulsations, and accuratelymeasure the spectra of the pulsar and PWN/trail. Timeresolved spectra willconstrain the Xray emission mechanism. We will determine the thermal andnonthermal spectra of the pulsar.
